Lose will mean the end of Euro journey for both team.

After losing their opening matches in Group B, neither co-hosts Austria nor Poland can afford to be beaten again on Thursday. The fighting qualities of the Austrian performance play against Croatia certainly surprised many. Based on the past history record, the 1-0 defeat to Croatia in the opening match meant Austria had become the sixth host nation to lose their opening match of a European Championship tournament. Now they must do the best to avoid joining Belgium (2000) as the only host country not to survive the group stage since the introduction of the knock-out rounds in 1984. Since then, seven teams have managed to survive the group stage after losing their opening match. Portugal and England were the last teams to achieve this, at Euro 2004.Austria’s defeat by Croatia also means they have still not won a game at a major tournament since 1990. As for Poland, they will be hoping to shrug off their opening defeat against the powerful and impressive Germans, in the same way that they bounced back after losing their first game in the qualifying tournament, eventually finishing on top of their group ahead of Portugal

Austria Line up:

Macho - Proedl, Stranzl, Pogatetz - Standfest, Aufhauser, Saeumel , Ivanschitz, Gercaliu Harnik, Linz

Poland Line up:

Boruc - Wasilewski, Zewlakow, Bak, Golanski - Dudka, Lewandowski, Lobodzinski, Zurawski - Krzynowek, Smolarek.

Past Meeting Between the 2

Austria and Poland have met on seven previous occasions, Austria winning three times and Poland four, with no draws so far. The Poles have won both competitive matches, 3-2 and 1-3 in the qualifying tournament for the 2006 World Cup 2006 – and in fact they’ve scored at least three goals in each of their last four games against the Austrians.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

I’m not so familiar with both team player but here are the 2 that you guys can pay attention to.

Poland - Ebi Smolarek

Ebi hit nine goals during Poland’s qualifying campaign.

Austria - Emanuel Pogatetz

The Middlesbrough defender is one of the relatively few Austrian players with extensive experience in playing in one of Europe’s major leagues.

My Prediction

Poland has showed an impressive performance during their qualifying to Euro 2008 compare with the co-host Austria. But the co-hosts Austria proved tougher in losing closely to Croatia than their sorrowful pre-tournament had led most to expect. Many did not expect the Austria can win in today competitive match but I do believe Austria can at least secure a point from Poland. A win from Austria not only will be the extra bonus to their home ground supporter but to us as well.

 Austria 0-0 Poland

FINAL SCORE: Austria 1-1 Poland

For those who watching the match live, did Austria deserved for a draw? I don’t think so as i thought Austria will win the game. They have 3 golden chances to score in the 1st 20 minutes but wasted.I’m really impressed by the way the Austria played, they dominated the game for most of the time and once they achieved 70++% ball possesion against Poland. It was really a closed game and i really don’t think they deserved to get only 1 point from Poland side. Isn’t it?
